Editing;
The main form of editing used in this clip was the shattering of glass once the title sequence had finished. This was done using CGI. The glass shattered after a quote from David Bowie about children knowing what they are going through. It shattered into a shot of the high school, this gives the audience an idea of what themes will be shown in the film.
Other editing techniques used in this clip were non-continuity editing, this drew the audience attention to how the film was constructed. This type of editing was mainly used in the first 2 minutes of the clip, when there were quick shots showing different objects you would see in a school.
Camera work;
The first shot we see in an establishing shot of the school, this is done to allow to audience to see the main setting for the film and see that the film is about teenagers. During the title sequence there are quick cuts between different shots of things you would find at a school. These shots fit with the narrative which was being said quite quickly so the quick cuts kept the shots in sync with the narrative. Mid shots were used when the characters were sitting in the car, this showed the audience who was going to be in the film. The main character was shot walking into the school in a long shot, this shows that they are the most important character out of them all.
The representation issue in this clip is relationships. We find this out through the dialogue that the main character is saying. He says 'thats how we saw each other at seven o clock this morning. We were brainwashed'. This is what he said after explaining the stereotypes of each character.
Sound;
The score in this clip is a song called Dont you forget about me by Simple minds, the fact that this is the introductory track shows that it will have some sort of significance in the film. The score then continues playing underneath the dialogue when the main character starts the narrative, this makes the change from the title sequence to the shots of the school more fluid.
There is the digetic sound of the glass shattering, this was added in post production and makes the image of the glass shattering more realistic.
When the main character comes into the shots there is a musical attack, this shows that he is the most important character.
Mise en scene;
The film is set in a high school, we know this because it is the first shot we see. This lets the audience know that the film is about teenagers and their school lives. The characters are all wearing costumes that suits their social status in school, for example the attractive male was wearing a jock uniform and the popular girl was wearing tight, fashionable clothing.
Graphics;
The typography used in this clip are very simple orange sans serif fonts, they are in capital letters which makes them stand out even more against a black background. The names of the producers and actors are in a larger font size than the actual role that they played, this highlights their importance in the film making.
