What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
There are 2 main types of media distribution companies that distribute film, these are; Big hollywood media companies and Independent media companies. The big Hollywood media companies are known as the big six, these companies are; Paramount, Disney, Warner bros, Coloumbia pictures, Universal and 20th century fox. If our teen comedy was to be distributed, I feel as if one of the big six would do this. I researched a range of different popular teen comedies to see which distribution companies distributed their films, a large amount of these films were distributed by the big six.

After looking at a range of different popular teen comedies, their budgets, box office takings and distribution companies it has become obvious that the best company to distribute our final product would be either universal or paramount. These two companies are very finacially stable, which means they would be able to send our product out efficiently as well as allowing money for marketing purposes. After thouroughly examining both paramount and universal, I am confident that Universal pictures would be more suitable for our specific type of Teen comedy, Not only do they make large amounts of profit through every teen comedy that they have released, they also include original themes througout their teen comedies which appeal to their target audience. This would be suitable for our teen comedy due to the fact that the film is entirely ran by the wierd kids, conventionally a teen comedy would be through the eyes and mind of either the popular clique or the Jocks. Because our teen comedy is slightly unconventional due to this element we feel as is universal would be more appropriate. Universal pictures have a very high success rate with all of the films they distribute, which is why we would be confident in this company distributing our teen comedy.
Universal Studios have released some very famous teen comedies that break the convention of a popular protagonist, some examples of these are; Back to the future, Sixteen candles and The Breakfast Club. Each of these films have an isolated protagonist who narrate the whole film. Each of these films have very similar themes, they focus on the outcasts of a school and their struggles within that setting.
These themes are very similar to the theme throughout our teen comedy, which is another reason to why we would want Universal to distribute our Teen comedy. Universal Studios are well known for their ability to efficiently distribute products with slightly unconventional themes, such as ours.
Finally Universals target audience for their Teen Comedies are very similar to ours, which will allow us to have a larger audience reach due to universal already having very good word of mouth. This is a good marketing move as it will result in us have to use less of a budget when it came to marketing due to Universals current reputation.
