Our shot schedule included one of our initial ideas where we had a young teacher at the beginning of the clip. We decided not to use this idea as we felt we could have done it better in a different way, we also did not include the extra shots and adaptations that we made whilst shooting in our schedule. We have made a new schedule that includes all of the changes that were made during the shooting process and represents our film as a whole.
We made a storyboard at the beginning of our project to give us a rough idea of the; length of the shot, the camera technique used, the type of shot and any other sounds or graphics that will be added to that shot post production. During the filming process we had new ideas that weren't stated in our storyboard. These ideas involved changes in setting, changes in camera shots as well as completely new shots. To record these changes we made a new storyboard that includes all adjustments and new shots that were done, this has allowed us to ensure that all the shots that we did are useful and that they contained all the things that we wanted it to. We remade the storyboard after we made our rough cut, by doing it this way we were able to ensure that all of our shots that we edited together look the way we wanted it to.
Cast- During casting we had to make some changes, this was for many reasons including lack of a participant's time, participants dropping out and the inconvenience of the filming itself on the participant. This resulted in us having to adapt the cast to ensure that we had the correct amount of people with the characteristics that we desired, this process was quite difficult due to different people having different times where they were available. Due to this inconvenience our shooting time went over by a week and a half.
Setting- The only setting that we didn't stick to was the idea of shooting the nerds in a corridor. On the day of filming we decided to film them in an empty classroom as well felt that this fits the conventions of a nerd demographic more than the corridor. By doing this we were able to add more props, and shoot the characters doing more activities rather that just walking with books. This results in the shots being more interesting and fun to look at.
Score- Originally we were going to use a mixture of 3 different songs (This is who I am, Swings and waterslides, Better off) These songs are all upbeat and fast paced which is perfect for a teen comedy, but we decided in the end that This is who I am fitted the beat of the shots the best and the lyrics fitted with the main character’s personality really well. Initially we were not going to use a licensed song in our clip as we felt that This is who I am fit all the characters, but after editing the weird kids we decided that we needed to distinguish them more to ensure that the audience knew that they were the man group and the story was from their perspectives. This is why we chose to use Pump it up by Elvis Costello, we are using 12 seconds of this and we are playing it during the introduction of the main character.
Risk assessment- At the beginning of our shooting process we created a risk assessment that covered all of the small risks involved during shooting. Whilst shooting the goths we came across a medium level risk which involved a character jumping from a low distance from a tree. This resulted in us having to adapt the risk assessment to cover this risk, and ensure that it was worth taking this risk during the filming process.
