The 1975- Chocolate

This music video has no general structure, the main scenes that are seen are the band driving through the city in a black car, the lead singer standing in a derelict ally way and the main character and a woman being intimate. It doesn't follow any specific theory, it links slightly with Torodovs theory in the fact that it stays at a consistent equilibrium but other than that it doesn't follow any specific theory or the conventions of a narrative in the inside genre.

Mise en scene:

The costumes in this music video are very minimalistic, this is because they are not the most important part of the music video. The producers want the audience to focus more on the on the un convention take to a music video rather than the costume choices of the band members. The band members are dressed in complete black which makes the costumes hard to see due to the continuously used black and white filter. Towards the end of the video we see the lead singer of the band with another woman, hugging in the nude. The lack of clothing isn't used to sexualized either of the character, more to portray their intimacy in the relationship. The most frequently used setting is a car driving through an urban setting, in this case a city. The use of the car connotes a relaxed journey, possibly between the lead singer and the female who are in a relationship.

Camerawork:

Pans and dolly cams are used very frequently through out this music video, they make the transitions between the shots a lot smoother and and give a more original feel to the video due to it not following the usual conventions of a straight cut. Eyel level shots are used persistently throughout the video, this is to portray a level of equality between the artist and the audience, this is very conventional of the indie genre. During the intimate scene of the two characters hugging naked, extreme close ups are used to exagerrate the connection between the two characters, we see these shots when the two characters are kissing.

Editing:

Slow motion is used at the very beginning of the music video, this is too give a smooth start to the video which is highly conventional of a indie music video. Throughout the entire video a black a white filter was used to drain out the colour, this is unconventional of a indie music video because it gers rid of any happy feelings due to their being no colour to back up the movement and emotion. Fades with a shallow depth of field disorientate the audience throughout the video, fades provide a smooth transition between the shots but having a shallow depth of field results in a confusion for the audience.

Soundtrack:

The entire song is in an upbeat major key, this gives the whole track a very uplifting vibe. The lyrics in the track outline a couple fighting for a relationship, the main lyric is ' We're never gonna quit it all we're never gonna quit it no'. This lyric showcases that a couple are going to work through tough times for each other, the lyrics are not synchronous with the music video which is unconventional of a indie music video.
