Audience Research; Magazine Advert

In regards to our magazine advert, we decided to create 3 initial ideas which we would then send out to our target audience to see which one was most liked. Once this data was obtained we would continue to develop the most liked advert whilst taking on board all imporvements given by our audience. Abbie created the 3 initial ideas and questionnaires as she wanted to develop her technological skills on other pieces of software such as coral draw.

Magazine Advert B; Image of Abbie standing on a bridge.
Magazine Advert C; Image of Abbie and Ryans faces cropped down the centre.
Question one; Which of the 3 album covers do you prefer? & Question Two; Why?

After analysing our questionnaires we found that our target audiences favourite magazine advert was C, the one where Abbie and Ryan are both in it. We asked our audience why they like it, these were their responses;
-
It fits the conventions of the Indie genre
-
Displays synergy between the music video and digipack
-
Demonstrates the contrast in the relationship
-
Gives an insight to the music video
-
Placement of the image
-
Prevokes emotion
-
Filters
These positive comments demonstrates that we are portraying the message that we wanted to, to our audience.
Question 3; What is your opinion of our chosen fonts for your favourite advert?
One problem that we did have was the fact that a large proportion of our audience did not like the fonts used in the adverts. Many respondants stated that the fonts varied too much and werent consistant enough, this is something that we will be working on as we develop our magazine advert during the editing process. Some participants stated that the fonts were more conventional of pop rather than Indie, we have decided to take a more minimalistic route with the font styles now in hopes to stick to the conventions of the indie genre. It was suggested to change the colours of the fonts, we have decided to go against this suggesting due to the connotation behind our choice of white. White connotes clinical behaviours along with innocence which are linked well with our main character.
Question 4; What is your opinion on the filters in your chosen advert?
-
Darkness compliments the genre
-
Cold and mysterious
-
Synchronous with the music video
-
Love the washed out effect
We did not recieve any negative comments about the filters, everyone seemed to think they worked really well with the conventions of the genre and fit well with the theme of our music video.
Question 5; What message do you think was portrayed in your chosen advert?

We asked our audience what they thought was being portrayed through our advert, they all gave very similar answers following the route of isolation, instability and issues within a relationship. We are very content with this data due to the message that we wanted to be noticed being clear.
Question 6; Do you think our product links to our music video?
All of our participants answered this question with a strong yes. They stated that we clearly hit the conventions of the indie genre, and the intended message that we wanted to portray was being reached.
Question 7; Is there anyother feedback you can give us?
We asked our audience this question in order to record any extra details about the adverts that they want to showcase. Again many participants stated that they wanted the font colour to change, we will be testing different colours during the editing process but are still happy with the white colour. Some participants said that the advert it far too basic, we wanted to keep them minimalistic in order to fit the conventions of the indie genre but we will be adding different elements to make it slightly more professional.
