Foster The People- Pumped Up Kicks
This music video follows a very relate able narrative theme for the younger audience. Its primary focus is on portraying the bands musical talent and showcasing their ability to have fun. The music video does not follow a specific narrative theory but stays in a consistant state of equilibrium to give a happy and upbeat feeling.
Mise en scene;

Performance- A large portion of this music video consists of seeing the band perform. This is used to highlight their musical talents and showcase their abilities. Giving a consistent message that the music is far more important than a story a narrative could tell, also that the band is rather important due to the constantly being on screen.

Costume- All band members are styled in simple casual tops and jeans. This is very convention of the indie genre as it is very minimalistic and allows the audience to focus on the music rather than exaggerated costume choices.

Setting- The majority of the music video is set on a stage, showcasing the bands musical abilities and giving a convention platform for performance. The rest of the video is set is very casual and isolated places like skate parks and empty building. Again a very conventional setting for the indie genre due to their minimalism.

Non verbal communication- Throughout the entire music video we see a large amont of non verbal communication that connotes happiness. This is through the use of smiling, laughing, running around and messing around with friend. This makes the audience envyous, but also easily associate with thus forming personal identity gratification.
Camerawork;

Close ups- We tend to see the lead singer through the use of a close up shot. This is much more personal and intimate shot which allows the audience to form personal relationships gratification with the artist. This is very conventional for indie artists as they like to form a connection with their audience making them more active rather than the typical passive artist audience relationship.

Pans- Pan's are used during a cut in order to make a smoother transition between each shot. This is highly conventional of the indie genre as they like to create a very comfortable atmosphere for the audience.

Close ups of instruments- During the scenes in which we see the band playing their instruments and showcasing their musical talent we see various close ups and extreme close ups of the instruments and the artists playing them.
Editing;

Filters- During the band shots there is a darker filter, this creates a more intimate and genuine mood for the audience along with fitting conventions for the indie rock genre. We will be using filters frequently throughout our music video in order to create different moods.

Screentime- The band members get much more screentime compared to others within the video, especially the lead singer. This highlights the hierarchy of importance and is very conventional of the indie genre due to the band being the main focus of the music video.
Soundtrack;

Diegetic sound- We hear this at the beginning of the music video before the actual score begins. This sound is synchronous with the video at that point, as we hear laughter and family chatter whilst we are watching happy home videos.

Score- The score is very upbeat which is very synchronous with the music video, when the tempo increases so does the action in the music video and visa versa. This makes the music video fun and entertaining for the audience.
