Final Cut Audience Research;

For our audience research we as a group have made the decision to take on different roles in obtaining information to help us improve our final cut. Myself and Abbie will be doing a formal interview with a group of students, for this we will have a set list of open questions which will allow us to get detailed reactions, improvements and compliments for our music video. We have decided to film this whole process and will be editing in on Sony Vegas, we will be filming the interview from two points of view in order to make our visual recording of it more interesting. s a group we have decided to use staple questions within each form of obtaining feedback and then add different questions if we feel they are needed. These questions are;

  • What was the most effective aspect of the music video in regards to narrative?

  • Was it obvious which scenes were happy and sad?

  • What do you think the narrative was about?

  • Did we use lighting techniques efficiently in order to create different moods?

  • Do you think we stuck to key conventions of the Indie Genre?

  • Is there anything throughout the music video that you didn't like?

  • What was your favourite part of the video?

  • Were the costume choices effective for the genre?

  • Did you find the video entertaining?

  • What are you opinions on the stability of the shots?

  • Are there any other comments that you have for us?

This is the formal interview conducted by myself and Abbie, I took on the role of editing this due to Abbie being the main editor for our vlogs. The comments from this interview were very positive and full of praise for the product that we made.

For the first question we asked regarding what the most effective part of the narrative was our participants in the interview stated that they liked how the breakdown of the relationship was steady and subtle, they also liked the consistent use of filters in order to display the different moods at the time. This feedback was helpful as filters and non verbal communication were the two most prominant elements when it came to displaying the breakdown of the main characters relationship, so it showed that our audience are able to understand the theme of the narrative.

Another question that links nicely with the previous one was asking if our audience understood what the narrative was about, we were really happy with these answers due to them stating exactly what our narrative was about, this being mental health and the breakdown of a relationship. We asked a question based around lighting and our audience stated that they really enjoyed the use of warm and cool tones in the happy and sad moments as they really excentuate the emotions. They also liked the use of the soft warm tones of the performance lighting, they stated that this fits the conventions of the indie genre highly. We gave our participants the opportunity to speak about conventions and costume choices, they highlighted that they liked our use of the text overlay at the end of the video becausee it helped them understand the end of our video being the main females unfortunate suicide. They stated that they felt the costumes were highly conventional of the indie genre due to them being very minimalistic. Finally we asked if there was anything they didn't like, some stated that they felt the match on action scene with Ryan leaving the house after an argument scene was slightly too quick, in hind sight we could have slowed it down slightly in the editing process but we felt as if it showcased the emotion after the argument scene really well.
