Domino Records: Founded in 1993
Domino records are an independent company based in London. They have many subdivisions based in the USA, Germany and France, all of these subdivisions obtain many new and original artists. Domino Records most famous artist that they have signed is Arctic monkeys who have become really successful over the years and are still signed with this record company. A company like Domino Records would be ideal for an indie band/artist but due to the fact that it has had a small amount of success means that it isn't a popular option when looking for a label.
Creation Records; Founded in 1983
Creation Records is an independent British record company, it has a lot of issues financially at the beginning of their creation and because of this they ended up selling half of their organisation to Sony Records. This was the best thing that could have happened to the company because it allowed them to have the financial stability and the good word of mouth to enable them to be successful. Companies in collaboration with larger companies are very useful for indie artists, this is because they are able to maintain the ethos of their genre but also allows them to become successful due to the knowledge and finances from the larger companies.
Universal Music Group: Founded in 1934
Universal Music Group is a subsidary of the conglomerate Universal Studios, it is a very large and successful record company that are working with many successful artists such as; Ellie Goulding and The Rolling Stones. This company has very good word of mouth which is why it is so well known, due to its conglomerate being one of the most successful production companies known these traits have already been associated with the record company aswell. Universal Music Groups is well known for its successful music artists, which is why if anyone hears about this company they automatically assume that the artist is successful which in most cases is true.
Our chosen record company: Virgin Records
Virgin records is well known for the signing of Indie Artists, they take chances on artists that do not take on the conventional idea of modern music. This company is owned by Universal Music Group, meaning it now has a lot of financial stability. Due to the company being owned by a huge multi millionaire, Richard Branson there is a lot of high technology and resources to ensure that a recorded track is done to the best possible standard. This company would be suitable for our track due to its willingness to take risks on Indie artists and make them successful.
